How reliable are birth control pills as contraception?

Oral contraceptives are much more reliable than condoms with a failure rate of just 0.2% to 3%. Condoms are up to 15% fallible.⁸

What do I do if I forget to take my Pill?

If you are less than 12 hours late in taking a tablet, take the pill as soon as you remember and continue with the rest of the pack as usual. If you are more than 12 hours late, the contraceptive effectiveness may be reduced and you will have to be more careful or consult your doctor’s advice whenever necessary.

How soon is YAZ^® effective contraception?

If you start taking the Pill on your first day of menstruation, the contraceptive effect is immediate. Contraceptive effectiveness also continues during the 4-day inactive tablets period.

Is YAZ^® suitable for me?

YAZ^® can be used by most modern healthy women but still some are not recommended to use YAZ^®. Do not use a combined oral contraceptive if:
If you have history of heart disease, stroke, severe high blood pressure, blood clotting disorder or thrombosis; breast cancer, cancer of uterus lining, cervix or vagina; kidney or liver disease, adrenal insufficiency; severe or uncontrolled diabetes mellitus; migraine accompanied by visual symptom, speech disability, bodily weakness or numbness; smoking particularly over age of 35; overweight; pregnancy or breast feeding; or allergic to the ingredients of YAZ^®. Please consult your doctor before you start taking YAZ^®

I have spotting or bleeding between periods, what do I do?

Light bleeding, also known as spotting, between your periods might occur in the first few months of taking the Pill. This does not affect its contraceptive effectiveness. Should it continue beyond the first 3 months, or if the bleeding is heavier than usual, consult your doctor.

Will I be able to get pregnant after I’ve been on the Pill?

There is no evidence to suggest the pill has any long term effect on a woman’s ability to have a baby, even if it is taken for a long period of time.¹

After I stop taking the Pill, how long must I wait before trying to conceive?

You could conceive as soon as you get off the Pill. However, it is recommended you wait until your have had a natural period before trying to conceive.

Will YAZ^® make me put on weight?

YAZ^® is a modern pill containing drospirenone which can reduce the likelihood of putting on weight due to estrogen-induced water retention associated with traditional high dose COCs.^5,6

Will YAZ^® affect my skin?

Owing to drospirenone, YAZ^® prevents excessive stimulation of the glands that may cause excessive sebum secretion.^5,6

Any side effects I might experience while taking YAZ^®?

Some women may experience minor side effects such as vaginal spotting, nausea or vomiting, headaches, weight change and breast tenderness. These side effects are generally mild and go away within the first few months of use. If serious side effects occur or persist, please contact your doctor at once.
