All about Yaz®

Facts about YAZ®:

* Ultra-low dose:

YAZ® contains a very low dose of estrogen and progestogen, 20µg ethinylestradiol and 3mg drospirenone, but still provides a reliable and effective contraception. Low doses of estrogen have been proven to be just as effective as high doses in preventing pregnancy.7

* Unique 24/4 regimen:

YAZ® is the first oral contraceptive to ever be delivered in a 24/4 dosing regimen, i.e. in 24 active hormonal pills and 4 inactive non-hormonal tablets. You don’t need to take a break from YAZ®, the 4 non-hormonal “dummy pills” represent the pill-free interval. You can just continue and start a new pack the day after you have completed the previous one. Thus, the chance of getting accidental pregnancy due to administration error may be lowered.5

When compared to the traditional 21/7 regimen, YAZ® provides the shortened pill-free interval of just 4 days and 3 additional days of the beneficial drospirenone (DRSP) per cycle. So the hormone levels in your body stay more stable and don’t fluctuate too much, even during the pill-free interval rendering positive effects on the physical and emotional discomforts associated with menstrual cycle.3,4

* Unique Drospirenone:

YAZ® contains a unique progestogen named drospirenone which closely resembles natural progesterone in your body. Hence, it is especially compatible to your body. The antimineralocorticoid and antiandrogenic properties of drospirenone help:

  • Women taking YAZ® are less likely to put on weight owing to water retention or to experience the related conditions such as abdominal bloating, tender breasts, nausea or headache, associated with traditional high dose combined oral contraceptives.5,6
  • Women taking YAZ® are less likely to experience the problems of excessive sebum secretion.5,6
Please consult your doctor before taking YAZ®.

Using YAZ®

  • Start YAZ®:
    > If you haven’t taken hormonal contraceptives before, just start taking YAZ® on the first day of your period and continue taking the tablet at about the same time each day. You may experience your period during the time taking the inactive pills. Your menstruation may continue during the beginning of your next pack of YAZ®.
    > If you are changing from another combined pill, you can start taking YAZ® the day after you have taken the last tablet of your present pill pack.
  • Missing pill?
    If you forget to take your pill at the proper time, don’t worry – just follow some precautions. What you should do next depends on which pill you’ve forgotten. Here are some steps to follow.
